A delightful unframed early 19th century miniature watercolour of a ship's captain standing on the shore, his telescope tucked under his arm. The hat of the sailor in the boat pulling an anchor may suggest this was painted in the east. His ship sits waiting offshore.
The waterclour was been lightly attached to another piece of paper where, judging by the deeply vibrant colours and aging of the paper, this has been used to protect the painting and tucked away for many years.
